CDBG Budget Talks, New Resolution Line Florissant Council Agenda

Council has to put nightclubs, taverns and cocktail lounges bill on back burner until next meeting.

kept its meeting short and sweet on Monday as it approved the community development block grant for fiscal year 2011 and took limited action on a few other items.

The council gave three readings to the 2011 community development block grant budget to unanimously approve the ordinance, 8-0. Ward 7 Councilwoman Karen McKay had an excused absence.

The 2011 fiscal year budget comes at a total of $200,837 for the year with $147,169 allocated toward the home improvement program.

Before council approved the ordinance, a public hearing was held for residents and councilors to get insight into projections for the 2012 fiscal year budget, which could be approximately $10,000 lower than the previous year.

Director of Community Development Carol O’Mara said that the 2012 budget is currently just an estimation, as it depends on what Congress allots the program.

The estimated summary shows $190,000 total for the budget year, with $136,500 devoted to housing programs as well as $38,000 toward grant administration.

The 2012 budget estimations will be available for public comment for a 30-day period in the Thursday.

Other Measures On the Agenda

Council also approved a resolution that supports a grant to make improvements to and .

With the resolution, Florissant could apply for a grant from the Municipal Parks Grant Program to help with some or all of the costs for the park. 

Council postponed the scheduled public hearing for taverns, cocktail lounges and nightclubs as no representative from the city administration was present. That, in turn, held up the bill for first reading.

The planning and zoning commission during its Aug. 15 meeting. That would mean new businesses of this sort would have to come before planning and zoning as well as council before receiving their necessary business permits.

Both measures were postponed until the Sept. 26 meeting.
