Vehicle Hits Teen Near Hazelwood School District Campus

The teen was rushed to the hospital with head trauma. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with police.

A teen was struck by a vehicle near the Hazelwood School District (HSD) campus on Friday morning. This happened in the 15900 block of New Halls Ferry Rd., around 7 a.m. 

The teen was transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital with light head trauma and possibly a broken arm, according to the St. Louis County Police Department, which also said he was alert and breathing.

The campus consists of the HSD Administration Building, Hazelwood Central Early Childhood Education Center and Hazelwood Central High School.

According to police, the man who hit the teen stayed at the scene and was cooperating with officers.

The cause of the wreck was unclear. Police have not revealed the identities of anyone involved.

The Hazelwood School District has released a statement on the matter:

"This morning, a male student was clipped by a van as he attempted to cross New Halls Ferry on the east side of the street at the stop light in front of Hazelwood Central High School. The student was transported to an area hospital and school personnel went to the hospital. He was alert and speaking to emergency personnel when they arrived. We are in frequent contact with the family of the student to receive updates and provide additional support."
