Police: Man Answers Door With Handgun, Arrested by Officer

The man was a convicted felon prohibited from owning a firearm and the handgun was stolen, police said.

A Florissant man faces two criminal charges after answering the door with a handgun at his side Jan. 15.

Corey T. Morton, of the 2300 block of Montezuma Drive in Florissant, was charged Jan. 16 with unlawfully possessing a firearm and receiving stolen property.

Florissant Police said that an officer who was following up on heroin sales in the neighborhood, knocked on Morton’s door at 7 p.m. Jan. 15. Morton answered the door with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun at his side, according to the police report.

Morton was convicted of unlawful use of a handgun in 2006, and is not allowed to possess a handgun. Police said the handgun had been reported stolen.

Morton was being held in St. Louis County jail on Monday. Bail was set at $50,000.
