Missing Man Returns Home After Drive to South Dakota

Michael Dobbs told police he was off his meds and went for a 2,000 mile drive to South Dakota.

A man for which St. Louis County police issued an endangered person advisory last week has returned home.                                                                       

Michael Dobbs returned to his home in the 6600 block of Hyde Park Square on Thursday, Aug. 1. 

According to St. Louis County Police spokesman George Vaughn the man's wife, Mary, notified police of his arrival.

A St. Louis County police officer spoke with Michael. He told police he was off his medical prescription and decided to go for a 2,000 mile drive to South Dakota.

Michael said he turned off his cellular phone because he knew it could be tracked and he did not want to be located at the time, according to police.

Michael said he realized what he was doing and decided to return home.

The 66-year-old man left at note at his home before leaving, which caused concern considering he is bipolar and suffers from depression, police said.
