Florissant Teen Uses Molotov Cocktails on Fighter Jet, Police Say

Alexander Wright admitted to making and throwing Molotov cocktails at the airplane that's on display at Florissant Valley Park, according to court documents.

A Florissant teen has been linked to some vandalism from last year in which a 1950's model F-101 "Voodoo" jet housed in the City of Florissant was extensively damaged.

The teen is charged with four felonies after police say he tried to set the decommissioned fighter jet on fire in a Florissant park on May 19 and May 20, 2012.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Alexander Wright, 18, of the 1400 block of St. Anthony Lane on July 15 with two counts of knowingly burning or exploding and two counts of unlawful possession of certain weapons.

Wright admitted to making and throwing Molotov cocktails at the airplane, which is on display at Florissant Valley Park, according to court documents. The Air Force donated the jet to the city in 2004.

A Molotov cocktail is a generic name used to describe a variety of glass bottle-based flammable mixture explosives, in which a burnable cloth wick is stuffed into the bottle's open area as a plug. The explosive wick is lit and the bottle thrown what whatever is the intended target.

The explosions damaged the paint on the plane. Graffiti was spray-painted onto one side of the jet, as well. Volunteers have since helped the city clean and paint it.
