A Florissant man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for driving drunk and killing a man. Brandon Garcia, 27, reportedly struck a St. Louis man with his vehicle when he was driving drunk, according to a report from CBS.
According to authorities, Garcia was fleeing from police in September 2011 when the accident occurred. Daunte Simmons, 26, and another pedestrian were walking along the Poplar Street Bridge in September 2011 when they were struck by Garcia’s vehicle. Simmons fell from the bridge and was killed.
Garcia was sentenced on Friday in St. Clair County on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. He will also simultaneously serve a 10-year sentence on a DUI related to the other victim, who was injured in the accident but survived.
