Florissant Man Pleads Guilty to Murder of 3-Year-Old Boy

Florissant police arrested Zach Cook last year for child abuse of the three year old, who later died due to his injuries.

Tuesday, a Florissant man pled guilty to the murder of a 3-year old boy from a 2011 crime.

Zachary Cook pled guilty to second-degree murder as well as abuse of a child, resulting in death, according to court records.

On May 5, 2011, police responded to a report of an injury to a child in the 2400 block of Blue Heron in Florissant. The child suffered a head injury and was taken to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries on May 8.

Cook was originally charged with felony child abuse. The police investigation revealed that the child sustained the injuries after being shaken, the Florissant Police Department said.

The 3-year-old as well as another young child was in the care of Cook at the time of the incident, according to the Florissant Police Department.

According to KSDK, Cook will be sentenced in November.
