Florissant Man Pleads Guilty to Charge Relating to 2001 Arson

Steven Henry Kemper pled guilty to one count of aiding and abetting the use of fire to commit mail fraud.

A Florissant man pleaded guilty Wednesday morning for his role in an arson that killed his 15-year-old son in 2001.

Steven Henry Kemper pled guilty to one count of aiding and abetting the use of fire to commit mail fraud, according to the US attorney of Eastern Missouriโ€™s office.

Originally, his wife, Sandra Bryant, had been charged with felony murder by arson, but a judge declared a mistrial following certain evidence being shown to the jury. Missouri Supreme Court upheld the ruling, which ultimately led to her not being retried.

She has also been charged with aiding and abetting the use of fire to commit mail fraud and and another separate charge, according to the office press release.

Kemperโ€™s sentence date is scheduled for Oct. 3, and he faces a minimum 10 years or up to life in prison.
