Florissant Man Kicks Window Out of Squad Car, Injures Officer, Police Say

Ahmad Saramah had been arrested for violating a protection order and was visibly drunk, police said

A Florissant man arrested for violating a protection order broke out the rear windshield of an O’Fallon police cruiser, causing minor cuts to a police officer’s hand last week.

Ahmed Saramah, 45, of the 1300 block of Beltower Drive in Florissant, was charged Aug. 5 with violating a protection order, assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and second-degree property damage.

O’Fallon Police said Saramah entered a home in the 2100 block of O’Fallon Lakes Drive, violating a protection order issued against him. Police said Saramah was visibly drunk, became increasingly hostile and shouted obscenities while neighbors, including children, were present.

When an officer arrested him, police said Saramah became “passively” uncooperative. When he was forced into the back of the police car, Saramah slammed his head into and kicked the rear windshield, according to a police report.

The glass shattered, striking a nearby officer with glass shards, cutting the officer’s hand. The officer suffered minor cuts.

After being removed from the vehicle, Saramah began violently kicking, striking one officer in the leg, police said.

Police said Saramah continued kicking violently as emergency workers tried to treat his injuries and secure him to a gurney.

Saramah posted a $5,000 bond Friday and was released from St. Charles County jail. He is banned from contacting the victim.
