Florissant Handles Slick Roads, Conditions

Police handle a number of accidents Thursday morning as the city's street department attempts to tame conditions.

Freezing temperatures, high winds, slick roads and a light snow accumulation led to hundreds of accidents Thursday morning, and Florissant was not excluded.

Sgt. Kevin Boschert of said in an email that the department responded to 28 car accidents Thursday morning as well as 11 reports of drivers needing assistance. No injuries or fatalities were reported, Boschert said.

Florissant Street Department’s Superintendent Gary Meyer was out this morning checking the streets, but an employee did confirm that snow trucks had been out since before dawn to handle the icy roads. The employee also said that the trucks would continue to be out throughout the day.

and school districts both held school today as regularly scheduled. The Ferguson-Florissant district announced that all afternoon activities would be cancelled due to the weather on its Facebook page.

According to the National Weather Service, the winter weather advisory remains in effect for the St. Louis County area until 6 p.m. The weather service estimates high winds between 30 and 35 mph as well as a total accumulation between one and three inches.
