DWI Checkpoints Set for August in St. Louis County

Both the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and St. Louis County Police have sobriety checkpoints planned at various locations in the month of August.

The St. Louis County Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol will be out in August with random sobriety checkpoints.

The police department said the inconvenience will be minimal to most motorists.

The goal, of course, is to reduce the number of intoxicated drivers on streets and highways.

The officers participating have additional training to recognized who has had too much to drink or is under the influence of illegal drugs, according to a St. Louis County PD statement.

Officers will also write tickets or make arrests for other violations discovered like not wearing a seatbelt or driving with a revoked license.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said drivers should call in and report motorists who are suspected of driving while intoxicated by dialing (800) 525-5555 or *55 from a cell phone.

Both agencies said the checkpoints are scheduled for various locations known for having increased occurrences of alcohol-related drivers. That would be popular short cuts and easy ways to avoid main streets.
