The School Board Meeting

The School Board needs your support. A great opportunity for parents to voice concerns.

Tuesday night, there was a school board meeting, and it was my first.

I have wanted to go in the past to school board meetings. But the truth be told, there are several reasons why I haven't. First of all, I used to work at a hospital, and I worked 12-hour shifts. I had to quit my job when I removed my child from the problem school.

Also, I rarely leave my children to go out at night, frankly I just prefer to be with them in the evening, and when they were smaller, it was especially hard. Now, my children are getting older to where it's easier to go, so tonight was a first!

I encourage parents to go to school board meetings. Apparently usually nobody does, so they could use your support. Parents should bond together to let the school board know what they want as well.  There is power in numbers:)  A man on the board mentioned my blog. My blog frustrates him.

I feel sorry for him that he is frustrated. My blog speaks the truth, my ideas are always backed by expert advice and research (I site my sources), it helps kids, and my blog reaches out to other parents so I can help them advocate for their children if they can't.

I think that's all a good reason to have a blog. So I will continue blogging and document my journey ... One Mom's Journey to Change Our Schools ... Jordan's Advocate.com. That being said, following this are two links you might find interesting.

The first, a fantastic movie coming out this month called, "Won't Back Down."  It has to do with an interesting law called, "Parent Trigger." Here is the link for the movie trailer. You have got to watch it!!

Next, here is another link and another reason kids need recess. It also might help all those children in our district who sadly aren't reading at grade level:)

A blog statistic for those who are curious. My relatively new blog routinely gets about 50 visits per day. Yesterday, 150! Many parents are reaching out to me in support and some TEACHERS as well. (We all love good teachers, don't we?) Thanks to all of you for your support. I am Jordan's Advocate.  http://www.onlinecollegecourses.com/2012/08/27/exercise-makes-you-smarter/  Thank you Allison for sharing the previous graphic with me:)

Together I know we can make schools a happy place for kids.
