Walking Down Recovery Road

What do you need to recover from in 2013?

We are now more than half way through January 2013, and many folks have already set some goals for what they would like to change about their life in 2013. For some, that may be to lose those extra few pounds, or to meet some financial goals.

What about those who are facing more difficult dilemmas? Those that are asking themselves, "Will this be the year I can finally kick my drug habit?" "How will I ever stop drinking?" "Will I be able to find a job this year?" "How will I get through the loss of my child, or my parent?"

We all have problems. No matter how big or small our problems seem, we ALL need to RECOVER from something. Life is never as easy as we thought it would be. In John 16:33, Jesus told us that in this life we would have troubles. This was not just a pessimistic statement on life, but it held a promise of recovery. He said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

No matter what you need to recover from, whether it is grief, an addiction, or financial difficulties, start your new year right by attending First Christian Church of Florissant for the "Recovery Road Series." Pastor Steve Wingfield will be sharing steps on how you can CELEBRATE RECOVERY in your own life through Christ.

The sermon series runs each Sunday through February 27th, with the exception of Janary 27, which is "Baby Day" at FCCF. Service times are 7:30am (traditional service), 9am, and 10:30am. The church is located at 2890 Patterson Road, Florissant, MO 63031. Visit the church's website, www.fccf.org for more information.

Each week during the series, someone will be sharing a personal testimony of how they overcame hardships that will encourage you to do the same. Just last week, a gentleman shared about how he kicked a drug habit through the help of a ministry of the church called Celebrate Recovery.

What is Celebrate Recovery? From their website, http://www.celebraterecovery.com/, Celebrate Recovery is "a Christ-Centered recovery program where lives are changing! Over 700,000 people have gone through the Celebrate Recovery program in more than 17,000 churches worldwide. Celebrate Recovery is a program designed to help those struggling with hurts, hang-ups, and habits by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through the recovery process."

The Celebrate Recovery group at First Christian meets on Fridays from 6-10 pm. The meeting includes a meal, a celebration service, and a teaching or testimony each week. The group breaks into smaller groups for men and women at 8pm. Childcare is available, and transportation can be arranged if needed to the meeting as well. Please contact Dennis Hounshell (837-2269, ext. 34), or email him at dennis@fccf.org if you have questions.
