Week in Review: Student Brings Bullet to School, Man Hits Girlfriend With Two-By-Four and Schools React to Sandy Hook Shooting

• In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT, more than 100 Patch readers weighed in on the topic of whether we need a ban on assault rifles?
• A man hit his girlfriend in the head with a two-by-four wooden plank and punched another man Friday.
• A man robbed the First Bank located inside Dierbergs on Lindbergh Tuesday afternoon.
• Residents expressed concern after Hazelwood Patch reveals there are buildings in the city deemed unsafe because they were used to produce methamphetamine.
• A Hazelwood West Middle School student admitted to bringing a bullet on the the Hazelwood School District Campus. The Hazelwood School District explains the punishment possible for the student that brought a bullet to school.
• Hazelwood officials are consulting with area police departments on adopting a program called Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.
• A Hazelwood man robbed a man in the Saint Louis Galleria parking lot Dec. 7 after placing a false Craigslist ad for an iPhone.
• A Tendercare Learning Center van crashed into the side of the building. Police say the children weren't seriously injured, but one was taken to a nearby hospital for examination.
• A man is accused of breaking into a Hazelwood home Thursday, attacking a woman and endangering a child during the assault.
• St. Louis County Police Chief said he wanted to arm school officials with guns. School officials later rejected the idea.
• A Calverton Park man faces criminal charges after St. Louis County Police said he hit and choked his girlfriend Dec. 7 in North County.
• A Florissant man was seriously injured in a car accident Thursday morning.
• Dec. 18 marks the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Phoenix Coldon who  was first reported missing from her North County home on Dec. 18, 2011.
