Preparing Your Garden for Spring, Summer Months

Local florist offers a few tips on whipping your garden into shape for the season.

Although the recent temperatures suggest otherwise, spring has arrived, and it’s time to start thinking about your garden.

Stems owner and florist Jenny Thomasson suggests now is the time to get it going.

Thomasson said there are three things that need to be done right now to get your garden ready for the warmer climates:

  1. Pruning: Pruning or cutting away dead plants and shrubbery is an important part of establishing your garden for the spring.
  2. Shaping: Cutting and giving a plant or bush a natural shape helps with the look and future growth of a plant.
  3. Getting good mulch: Mulch helps keep a garden healthy and aids in drought-like conditions. Currently, the City of Florissant offers free mulch to its residents at Koch Park.
