UPDATED: More Than 10K Without Power in North County

Thunderstorms and a tornado that ripped through the area left thousands without power Wednesday night.

More than 10,000 North St. Louis County residents are without power following strong thunderstorms and a reported tornado in the area, according to the Ameren map.Β 

The Ameren outage map shows thousands in Florissant, Hazelwood, Black Jack and surrounding areas without power.Β

In a drive through parts of the town, parts of Old Town Florissant were pitch black with tree limbs and branches scattered throughout the streets. North Highway 67 was also pitch black near the Patterson intersection, and Florissant Police directed traffic as traffic lights were out.

On the Florissant Patch Facebook page, several residents reported power outages, down power lines and other remnants of the storm, including damage near the St. Ferdinand Park area and in the Howdershell area.

In Hazelwood, there were reports on KMOV TV that St. Charles County officials were being staged at Armstrong Elementary School for tornado response.
