How to Protect Yourself from the Malware Attack

After Monday, thousands across the country as well as in Florissant may be without Internet if they’re computers aren’t checked for malware.

According to a Fox 2 News article, international hackers attempted to take control of more than half a million computers through an advertising scam. The FBI took down the hackers, but more than 250,000 computers remain infected, specifically 64,000 in the United States.

To make sure you don’t lose your Internet connection, here’s what you can do:

• Check out the FBI-apporved website, www.dcwg.org to get the service to check your computer for the viruses.
• If you do have an infected computer, make sure that you back up all of your important files and such, and then follow the suggested steps on the website to clean your computer from the malware and ensure further infections from the hackers.
• After clearing the malware or to make sure to prevent further other malware type issues, make sure to check out guidelines to protect your computer and its hardware for future attacks.
• If your computer has been infected and you’re not able to clear it up in time, (and hopefully you’ve downloaded this article or you have WiFi nearby), you will have to contact your Internet Service Provider to clear up the malware issue.
