Florissant Residents Can Save Bucks on Their Energy Bills

St. Louis County SAVES offers low-interest loans to make homes more energy efficient.

With the rising temperatures of summer keeping the air conditioner running, homeowners have the chance to make their homes more energy efficient.

homeowners have the opportunity to get a low-interest home loan that will allow them to make their homes more energy efficient thanks to the St. Louis County SAVES program.

The program allots for $2,500 to $15,000 for single-family homes to become more energy-efficient through air sealing to insulation to higher efficient equipment.

“The SAVES program has already injected $1.3 million into the St. Louis County economy by financing low interest loans for qualified homeowners,” Anne Klein, County administrator of the SAVES program, said in a press release. “The program offers homeowners the ability increase the energy efficiency of their homes by replacing inefficient furnaces and air conditioning units, increasing insulation and replacing leaky windows. These improvements save homeowners on their energy costs, put local companies to work, and increase property values. It’s a win-win-win.”

Residents are able to apply for the loans that have a 3.5 percent interest rate that is flexible for up to 10 years.

The Missouri Coalition for the Environment has announced its support of the program as it could aid residential energy efficiency in St. Louis and across the country.

“Energy efficiency is the safest, cheapest, and cleanest form of energy available,” Ed Smith, Safe Energy Director for the Missouri Coalition for the Environment. “Missouri lags behind other states in energy efficiency investments and the SAVES program is a step in the right direction to address our long-term energy needs.”
