Florissant Disc Golf Course Hosts Grand Opening Celebration Saturday

With warmer weather approaching, the City of Florissant is set to officially open its newest attraction this weekend.

The Florissant disc golf course in Dunegant Park will have its grand opening on Saturday.

The . Park improvement funds were used to make the addition to the park.

Last year, Mayor Tom Schneider said he envisioned the course becoming the “Bellerive of St. Louis for disc golf.”

Disc golf is similar to the game of golf, except its played with a Frisbee, and the focus to is to get the fewest number of throws per Pole Hole or goal, according to the Professional Disc Golf Association.

, and it continues to grow and expand in popularity.

According to the city’s spring brochure, the front nine of the course has short to medium-length holes, while the back nine has longer and open-style feel with par 4 and par 5s along a sloping hill.

This weekend’s grand opening will include a disc golf tournament organized by the St. Louis Disc Golf Club with multiple divisions from beginner to professional. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. with round one of the tournament kicking off at 10 a.m.

Mayor Tom Schneider will attend to throw out the first disc, too.

Parks and Recreation Director Todd Schmidt said the city is hoping to get as many people out as possible and said that while it's taken time to get things together, the course is officially open and ready for play.
