Festivals, Fairs Begin to Run Rampant in North County

As spring draws to a close and summer gets warm, we're listing off some of the most popular festivals and fairs happening in the area.

As the school year winds down and the heat of summer attempts to creep in, spring and summer festivals are popping up across the area.

Florissant and the rest of the North County area will be hosting a numbers of fests and fairs to keep you and your family busy throughout the summer.

Date/Time: May 4, 6-9 p.m.; May 5, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; May 6, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Where: University of Missouri at St. Louis, North Campus
Cost: General Admission, $5 per day; Students with identification, $1.50 per day; alumni with identification, $2.50 per day
What: The St. Louis Mercantile Library presents the three-day fair on the campus of University of Missouri St. Louis. Both local and national print and rare book dealers will be featured throughout the festival.

Date/Time: May 3-6
Where: City of Florissant (Various Locations)
Cost: Free
What: The 50th annual Valley of Flowers festival will pay homage to its beginnings of celebrating a beautiful city and gather hundreds of residents to the area for the festival. Car shows, dog shows and a pageant will be only parts of the festivities.

Date/Time: May 12, 9:30 a.m.
Where: White Birch Bay
Cost: $15 for residents; $20 for nonresidents
What: The St. Stanislaus Stampede will be a 5K run/walk from White Birch Bay to St. Stanislaus Trail. This is the first-ever event.

Live Well Ferguson Twilight 5K
Date/Time: May 19, 4 p.m.
Where: Historic Ferguson
Cost: $25 general registration fee
What: The third annual Ferguson Twilight 5K is partnered with the nonprofit organization Live Well Events, which promotes healthy and fitness activities for Ferguson and North County residents. Registration details are all available on its website.

Date/Time: June 2, 10 a.m.
Where: Hazelwood Community Center
Cost: Free
What: The Hazelwood Community Enrichment Commission hosts its 9th annual art fair and used book sale. Local artists are encouraged to enter their works into he fiar, where they will be judged. For more information on entry or attending the fair, call 314-731-0980. 

Fiesta in Florissant
Date/Time: June 23-24
Where: Knights of Columbus
Cost: Free
What: Hispanic Festival Inc. celebrates culture and heritage and unite Hispanics throughout the area with a grand celebration. According to the website, “a portion of the proceeds go towards college scholarships for underprivileged Hispanic students.” For more information, visit the Hispanic Festival website.
