Ferguson Twilight Run Coordinators Discuss Security on Facebook
With the run almost one month away, coordinators discuss how they're protecting the upcoming North County event.
While the country continues to process the bombing at the Boston Marathon earlier this week, one North County race has taken to social media to address security concerns.
The Ferguson Twilight Run is scheduled for May 18, and Tuesday morning, the race coordinators made a Facebook post regarding its security and hopes for those in Boston.

At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been impacted by the tragedy at the Boston Marathon. As a community of runners, we band together to support and help ensure the safety and well-being of the runners and the families and friends who support them.
We realize that because of the tragedy that has happened in Boston, there might be some concerns or questions aboutthe safety precautions planned for the Ferguson Twilight Run. We donot anticipate any problems, but we want you to know our safety measures, and wewant to assure you that you and your family are a priority when you’re with usfor the race.

Since our first race in 2010, the race has been supportedby the Ferguson Police Department and Ferguson Fire Department. These professionalshave always been present to help ensure that the safety of our participants andspectators are top priority as well as provide medical and emergency servicesas needed. In addition, we employ trainedCERT – Community Emergency Response Teams – volunteers who work in partnershipwith the Ferguson Police. Thesevolunteers act as course monitors along the routes looking out for the well-being of participantsand directing traffic to alternate routes wherever possible.
As we continue to make safety a priority for the FergusonTwilight Run, we ask that everyone who joins us for the race be aware of theirown personal safety and the safety of others. Prayers to those in Boston and thankyou for supporting Ferguson Twilight 5K/10K & One-Mile Fun Run.
