Barbecue Competition Returns to Florissant

The Optimist Club of North St. Louis County hosts its annual midwest state championship barbecue contest this weekend.

Florissant residents can count on smelling a lot of smoke and good food near the James J. Eagan Center this weekend.

The Optimist Club of North St. Louis County hosts its 8th annual Missouri State Championship Barbecue Contest. This is the second year that the City of Florissant hosts the event.

Forty competitive barbecue teams from the Midwest will compete in four categories, including, chicken, ribs, pulled pork and brisket.

Barbecue will be judged, but residents and other attendees will have the opportunity to purchase barbecue at the center.

All of the proceeds of the event will go toward benefitting childhood cancer research through Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

The event starts Friday, 3-9 p.m. and continues Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
