St. Louis Business Journal Picks Florissant Resident for 30 under 30

Florissant resident Annie Haarmann is one of 29 honorees for 2013.

Being young and professional in North County can have a number of perks, including awards.

St. Louis Business Journal honored Florissant resident Annie Haarmannn, manager of web and digital media at Mallinckrodt, along with 29 others with its annual 30 under 30 honor.

For the past eight months, Haarmann, 29, has worked to build the Mallinckrodt brand, website and digital presence as the company undergoes a number of changes.

“It’s really humbling to be honored for the hard work in my career at this point,” she said. “It’s an exciting time to be part of something new and fresh. The company is poised for great things. We’re in a good position to move forward.”

The North St. Louis County native has been making a digital impact in St. Louis for a little while now, but she started out in traditional media.

Haarmann said after graduating from Webster University where she studied public relations and journalism, she worked in public relations--speaking to the media, writing releases and brochures.

She said in 2007, she decided to follow her gut and push for greater use of digital-based applications and social media to enhance the nonprofit where she worked.

From that  point, she worked toward a new medium and goal.

Before joining Mallinckrodt, Haarmann said she worked as a digital media strategist for Chesterfield-based Reliv International for more than two years but had always secretly dreamed of having a job at Mallinckrodt.

For other young professionals in their 20s, Haarmann advises that it’s never too early to start defining yourself as a professional and to never say no to anything.

“By saying yes to everything, you develop new skills,” she said.

Haarmann said growing up, living and working in North County showcases that the area produces some of the finest talent in the St. Louis area.

“It’s great to be here with roots and less than 10 minutes away from work,” she said.

Haarmann and the other 29 30 under 30 honorees will be saluted July 18 at the Coronado Ballroom. She said that the honor includes a feature in the publication, a subscription to the St. Louis Business Journal and the honor at the reception.
