Social Media Chatter: Florissant Walmart Gets Praise, Boos

Residents seem split about the new retail development in the works.

the news has residents both cheering and jeering. Nowhere is that more noticeable than on social media.

Residents took to Facebook and Twitter to let us know what they think about the development.

On Facebook, several residents voiced their excitement for more revenue and jobs that will be brought to the area, while others spoke of their frustration.

Joe McClurg wrote, “Totally disgusted. Walmart is a vile corporation where corruption goes all the way to the top. Is this the kind of citizen that Florissant needs? Heck, no! I, for one, will not patronize them for any reason whatsoever. I will shop outside Florissant if I must. Not one dime will I give to Walmart.”

“This is a terrible day for the,” Jeremy Scott wrote. “It’s going to kill all the businesses around it, just like it did in my old neighborhood … and we will end up with more shopping center graveyards.”

On Twitter, residents seemed a bit more on the fence about the Walmart.

@s_siemsen wrote, “I cannot decide if Walmart is a good or bad thing. Can we please get a Kohl's?”
