On Facebook, several residents voiced their excitement for more revenue and jobs that will be brought to the area, while others spoke of their frustration.

Joe McClurg wrote, “Totally disgusted. Walmart is a vile corporation where corruption goes all the way to the top. Is this the kind of citizen that Florissant needs? Heck, no! I, for one, will not patronize them for any reason whatsoever. I will shop outside Florissant if I must. Not one dime will I give to Walmart.”

“This is a terrible day for the,” Jeremy Scott wrote. “It’s going to kill all the businesses around it, just like it did in my old neighborhood … and we will end up with more shopping center graveyards.”

On Twitter, residents seemed a bit more on the fence about the Walmart.

@s_siemsen wrote, “I cannot decide if Walmart is a good or bad thing. Can we please get a Kohl's?”

What do you think of the new Walmart development? How do you think it will enhance Florissant?

Support Local Business not Corporate Business! Do not patronize Wal-Mart!

Yeah! And don't patronize K-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Walgreens, Mobil, Conoco-Phillips, BP, St. Louis Bread Co, Chili's, Applbees, Taco Bell, KFC, McDonald's, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Jack in the Box, Denny's, Hooters, Waffle House, Dunkin' Donuts.... See where I'm going with this? Schnuck's and Dierberg's put the mom-n-pop groceries out of business, but I'm not hearing the same vile talk about them. Notice how I'm not responding to the business but rather I'm responding to the people who think they need to tell everyone else where to shop. Shop where you want to shop because this is America and we're still free... for now.

Beth I am not a fan of Walmarts. Especially in Florissant. It will probably turn out to look as tacky as the one on West Florissant. It will bring more white trash into Florissant. They do not treat their employees well and I feel sorry for the businesses around them, because Wal-Mart doesn't care who they run out of business. Let's have more unemployment. I would not work at Wal-Mart for anything. Why don't they put the Wal-Mart in a place that has vacant buildings? We need more traffic on Lindbergh like we need a hole in our heads.
