Florissant Stores Offer Affordable Twist on Halloween Costumes

Goodwill and Plato's Closet sell costumes that won't break the bank.

With Halloween springing up in less than a week, the last-minute crunch to have the right costume has begun. If you’re not interested in doling out big bucks for the spooky Holiday, Florissant has a couple of options for keeping costs low.

Both and have a selection of Halloween costumes for customers.

Tameka Dorn, assistant manager of the Goodwill on Lindbergh, said that since the store started selling costumes about a month and a half ago, the store has restocked its racks on a constant basis daily.

“We replenish throughout the day until we run out,” she said. “We’re putting stuff out, and (customers are) still finding other pieces to match up.”

Among some of the most popular selections, customers have snatched up wedding gowns, prom dresses and witch outfits.

Dorn pointed out that the store not only has children’s costumes, but attire for women, men and dogs, too.

Kids’ costumes start at $2, while adults’ costumes start at $4. The shop also carries decorations, such as lawn ornaments, webbing and window decals, that range between 50 cents and $4.

Plato’s Closet, on the other hand, focuses exclusively on women’s costumes  for an affordable price. Plato’s Closet deals in the resale market—gently worn clothes that have been sold to the store.

Manager on duty Kristen Schreiber said that the store has approximately 20 costumes on sale now. The store’s Facebook page shows costumes such as a female sailor, Ms. Freddy Krueger and a flapper girl for sale.

Schreiber said that the costumes range between $10-$15, which is one-third of what you’d find in a regular costume store.

Both stores will continue to sell costumes until Oct. 31 or until they are completely sold out.
