Florissant Historic Business District Has a Lot of Conversation at P&Z

One petitioner requests a rezoning to the historic business district, while the commission continues to discuss permitted uses for it.

The Planning and Zoning had its hands full Monday night as they heard a request for Florissant’s historic business district as well as discussed the permitted uses for it.

Florissant resident Angela Dachroeden requested a rezoning of 520 Brown St. from a historic residence to the historic business district. She presented a plan to open the Snuggery in the residence, which would be a place for artists to sell and share creations as well as provide prepared food and specialty teas and drinks.

While the  commission enjoyed the presentation, many commissioners rejected her request.

Lead Commissioner Jane Boyle said she would like it to be left a residence as the entire street is residential.

“Don’t ask us to change a treasure,” she said.

Commissioner Jim Hessel said that while the concept of her project is great, the business could later become a number of businesses or uses listed for the historic business district.

The commission unanimously rejected the request.

Boyle asked that furniture and home furnishings be added to the list as the, hopefully, last amendment to it.

Commissioner Steven Olds pointed out that he would like more of the commission present before taking a final vote on the list. Boyle, Hessel, Olds, and Commissioner Lee Baranowski were all that was present for the meeting.

The commission voted to continue the presentation until its next meeting.
