Florissant Facility Hosts Fundraiser to Aid Joplin Recovery

Preferred Family Healthcare puts on silent auction, performances to drive funds for Joplin relief.

Florissant residents have an opportunity to continue the recovery effort in , MO.

(PFH) will sponsor two fundraisers called MOJO (Missouri United for Joplin Relief) on Main in St. Charles, with 100 percent of proceeds benefitting the relief effort.

Kasey Harlin, the program director for Achieving Recovery Through Creativity (A.R.T.C.) for PFH and the fundraiser coordinator, said that the group will host music, skits and a silent auction for attendees. All performances and art showcased will be from youth and adults in the A.R.T.C. program, which focuses on using artistic means for expression and changing harmful substance abuse behaviors.

“We wanted to design a fundraiser where clients are given opportunity to participate and help,” Harlin said.

The second part of the fundraiser involves a partnership with Big A’s, a restaurant on Main Street. For every customer who brings in a flyer and buys food or drink, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of sales to the Joplin recovery efforts.

Preferred Family Healthcare, which is located in Florissant, had a sister site affected by the Joplin tornado in May.

The tornado destroyed the girls’ home as well as a center van. Currently, the site operates its outpatient treatment services out of the boys’ group home, which sustained little damage from the tornado, Harlin said.

The fundraiser takes place at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Grand Opry Center on Main Street in St. Charles.
