Get Up to Date on Everything With the 'Florissant Patch' Facebook Page

We're starting a new column about our social media side of things.

Several readers fit into one of three categories. Those who casually stop by when they can, some are newsletter subscribers who get their Patch fill everyday and then there are those who are loyal social media followers.

We want to bring those two worlds together with our new social media column.

Each week, we’ll discuss items on our social media sites, changes, developments and best of all, you.

This week, we’re talking to our Facebookers – or potential Facebook fans.

We’ve already got hundreds of Facebook fans, but we’re greedy and we want more.

Here are a few things to consider about becoming a fan:

  • See the stories we update through the day: We constantly post news stories and features covered by us or other media outlets throughout the day. For example, this past week, KMOV had coverage of a gas leak near Lindbergh Boulevard, and we posted a link to their story on their site.
  • Breaking News: Anytime there’s a breaking news story, we do publish a brief story, but our first point of contact is with Facebook or Twitter. It also gives you a chance to ask questions that you want to know, and we can live update at the scene.
  • Interact with me or other writers working on their stories: Several times, other writers or myself might ask questions about something happening in Florissant. For example, a couple of weeks ago, we asked about the new flashing yellow arrow traffic lights in town, and it got a huge response from residents. It also gives us a chance to interact with residents about what we should cover and give us ideas on other stories.
  • See outside coverage: We post photos, videos and other things not always featured on the site. So, you can glimpse of where we are and what we’re doing around town.
