This technical importance helped make railroads an important tool to both sides of the Civil War, and had a profound influence on the strategies and objectives of nearly all civil war military campaigns. John W Barriger IV, the greatson of a Civil War Officer and son of John W Barriger III, will talk about how the ability or inability of each side to move significant numbers of troops by rail decided the outcome of major battles during the war.
