The Civil War and the Railroads
1 University Boulevard, St. Louis, MO | Get Directions »
FREE
The Civil War occured at the same time that railroads had just established their dominance as the best technology to move people and good over land. This technical importance helped make railroads an important tool to both sides of the Civil War, and had a profound influence on the strategies and objectives of nearly all civil war military campaigns. John W Barriger IV, the greatson of a Civil War Officer and son of John W Barriger III, will talk about how the ability or inability of each side to move significant numbers of troops by rail decided the outcome of major battles during the war.
