Ferguson-Florissant Incumbent, Newcomer Elected to Board

Incumbent Leslie Hogshead regained her seat, while incumbent Charles "Chuck" Henson was edged out by Keith Brown.

The Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education will have a new face and a familiar face following Tuesday’s election. Incumbent Leslie Hogshead and current vice president of the board regained her seat with 2,411 votes, and Charles “Chuck” Henson lost his seat to Ferguson resident Keith Brown, who won the seat with 2,176 votes to Henson’s 2,054 votes. Candidate Larry Thomas received 854 votes. The race between incumbents became heated during the past month as Hogshead ran an ad saying that she didn’t vote to support the lifetime health insurance for former district Superintendent Jeff Spiegel. In 2010, the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education approved a vote to give Spiegel and his wife lifetime health insurance benefits after his retirement…

Results for Arch/Park Tax, Prop P in St. Louis County, City

It had to pass in both St. Louis City and St. Louis County in order to impose the sales tax increase to fund improvements around the Gateway Arch, local parks and regional trails.

Voters in St. Louis County and St. Louis City said yes to a 3/16ths of one-cent sales tax increase designed to fund about $31 million a year in improvements to the Gateway Arch grounds, the regional Great Rivers Greenway trails and greenways, and for city and county parks. The measure had to pass in both the county and the city in order to be implemented. In the city, with 100 percent of the vote counted, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the proposition won with 67 percent of the vote. With 100 percent of the votes counted in the county, the proposition passed easily with a 53 percent to 47 percent margin. With Election Day just days away, each candidate gives their reasons for running and being elected.

As the April 2 election draws near, Florissant Patch is keeping voters informed about the candidates running. In Florissant, there’s a special election being held for the Ward 4 Council seat, which is an uncontested race with Jeff Caputa. In the Hazelwood School District, the incumbents also face an uncontested race. In Ferguson-Florissant School District, there are four candidates running for two seats on the board of education, including two incumbents. Ferguson-Florissant Board Candidates Talk Finances, Future

Three of the four candidates had opportunities to stand out from the crowd.

Three of the four Ferguson-Florissant candidates for the board of education stated their cases to an intimate audience at McCluer High School Thursday night. Incumbents Charles “Chuck” Henson and Leslie Hogshead as well as Ferguson resident Keith Brown answered questions regarding student achievement, security and handling the district’s financial picture. Ferguson resident and candidate Larry Thomas did not attend. The forum, hosted by the McCluer Parent/Teacher/Student organization (PTSO), allowed voters an opportunity to interact with the candidates. Ferguson-Florissant Voters Can Hear From Board Candidates Tonight

All four candidates will participate in a candidates forum, sponsored by the McCluer parents organization.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education candidates, parents and registered voters will have the opportunity to hear from them Thursday night. The McCluer Parent/Teacher/Student Organization (PTSO) will host a candidate forum for voters, parents, teachers and students with all four candidates. There are two seats up for election on the board. The candidates are incumbents Charles “Chuck” Henson and Leslie Hogshead and challengers Ferguson residents Keith Brown and Larry Thomas. The forum will take place at McCluer High School at 7 p.m. The election is April 2.

Voter Registration Deadline Approaching for Florissant Residents

The last day to register for the April election is this week.

If you want to vote in the April 2 election, the deadline is fast approaching to register to vote in St. Louis County. Voters must be registered by March 6 to vote in the April election. In order to register, you must: Missourians can register to vote by one of the following methods: St. Louis County residents can also send in a completed voter registration application to: The Board of Election Commissioners, 12 Sunnen Dr., Ste. 126 St. Louis, MO 63143. If mailing your registration, it must be postmarked by March 6. For more information, check out the Board of Election Commissioners website.
