St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Daniel Isom will join the nationally ranked Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri–St. Louis on Jan. 1. He brings with him 24 years of experience and expertise in law enforcement and administration.

- UMSL’s Gateway for Greatness Campaign concluded this summer after raising more than $154 million through gifts by about 55,000 donors. What’s their return on investment? Access and excellence, UMSL Chancellor Tom George said in a new Gateway for Greatness Campaign video.
- At the 21st annual UMSL Founders Dinner on Oct. 2, Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to six alumni. The founder and owner of FroYo Premium Frozen Yogurt was among the recipients. Click HERE to read about the other recipients.
- UMSL’s Missouri Institute of Mental Health marked 50 years of service to the community with a public celebration on Oct. 1. MIMH will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a three-part film series throughout October. The movies are free and open to the public.
- Two new tenants have set up shop in UMSL’s incubator for startup companies. Retectix and Onshore Outsourcing recently moved into UMSL’s Innovative Technology Enterprises, which brings the ITE tenant count to eight.
- UMSL’s Michael Murray sat down with veteran broadcast journalist Dan Rather to talk about the newsman’s new memoir, “Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News.” Click HERE to read Murray’s Q&A about the encounter.
- Health care is a hot topic no matter what season it is, and no one knows that better than attorney Claire M. Schenk who specializes in health-care fraud and abuse cases. Schenk, partner at Thompson Coburn LLP, will discuss “An Insider’s Perspective on Complex Health Care and Securities Investigations and Prosecutions” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Century Rooms at the Millennium Student Center at UMSL.
