Florissant Police confirmed Thursday afternoon a body found in Bridgeton was that of missing woman.

Updated at 5 p.m.

The Florissant Police Department announced late Thursday afternoon that a body found near Prouhet Farm Road and Ferguson Lane in Bridgeton was that of Valerie Butler.

Police discovered the body of a female in the late morning hours Thursday and had not been able to positively ID the body until late afternoon.

The police identified Butler after matching her fingerprints.

Butler has been missing since Feb. 11. Maryland Heights Patch previously reported Butler was last seen at the Handlebars in Florissant.

Florissant Police said an immediate cause of death was unclear. The St. Louis County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.

Please note that the Butler family has created an account to help with Valerie's funeral costs. Donations to the fund may be sent c/o Vickie and Vernon Butler, Vantage Credit Union, 4020 Fee Fee Rd., Bridgeton, MO 63044. They are also putting together a way to donate through PayPal as soon as possible.

The family tells me that the autopsy has been completed, but they were told it could be weeks for the medical examiner's report to be released. Updates to come as they are available.

Very sorry for the loss of Vickie and Vernon's daughter, Valerie. I had worked with Vickie through the time period of the passing of her mother. My condolences to the family.

This is a very sad time for her family. I am ashamed of what others have said regarding
Valerie Butler. I know the Gator's Bar that she was in and my husband goes to that bar and it is NOT a seedy place. It is run by a caring, family couple who helped tremendously with the police in search of Valerie. She was a very pretty woman and no one deserves to be "dumped somewhere" as she was. Mr. Tripp should have called the police if something went wrong and Valerie was in danger. He may have been able to save her. My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. God Bless All of You! May Valerie rest in peace!
