Walmart Petitioners Don't Show up to Latest Florissant Council Meeting
The large development requests an amendment to its previous plans but did not attend the previously scheduled public hearings on the matter.

The plans for a Walmart at 3350 and 3400 N. Highway 67 remain up in the air as the representatives for the plan were no-shows to the latest public hearing.
According to the Independent News, petitioner Jeff Otto did not attend the public hearing at the previous City Council meeting on Jan. 28. It was postponed from an earlier meeting in January.
Previously, Walmart received approval of its development plans last year from the council and has requested an amendment to its plans, which have a cause of concern for City Engineer Tim Barrett.
Barrett told the council that he’s worried about the truck traffic for the development as well as “soil in the flood plane fringe,” which violates city ordinance, according to the article.
The council postponed the public once more until its Feb. 11 meeting.

I'm sick of Walmart and the city council.Have they even tried to get other businesses for that area?

I think we need a Walmart here and hope they get it settled so we can enjoy the store without having to travel too far.They have better prices than most stores and good prices on prescriptions.. i definitely could use that.

You can find the same products at other stores and just as cheap.:::Schnucks has. cheaper generic prescriptions. Drive. You can shop Walmart in Dellwood.

Walmart is a company that does not pay well. They ship all the manufacturers overseas and don't pay the people working a fair wage. Have children working in sweat shops overseas. They want to move into a neighborhood, knock out small mom n pop stores, and want to not pay taxes to the community. I have not shopped at Walmart ever since the old man died. He NEVER wanted to move into the city. Said he did not want to take monies or jobs from the areas . His son is a different business believer .

The city can not stop a business if it is allowed in the zoning codes and if it meets laws already on the books. The City Council job is to make sure all the t's are crossed and i's are dotted with zoning issues...It is not their job to get business to come to the city (that falls under the administrations heading) Also, it is not Councils job to tell one business over another if they can or can-not purchase and build on their property.

I agree Walmart cannot be kept out as long as they meet the zoning codes. I think with this development more jobs will be created and more competition will happen between kmart and target. I know kmart and target are up for friendly competition.
