Florissant Police said the men broke into a home in the 600 block of Ledyard Drive on Aug. 23.

The men were charged Friday in St. Louis County Circuit Court with second-degree burglary and misdemeanor stealing. They are:

Florissant Police said Smith broke into the house in the 600 block of Ledyard Drive, Bennett was the driver and Doss was the lookout. They stole a flat-screen TV, according to the report.

Bond was set at $50,000 each for Smith and Doss and at $20,000 for Bennett.

What in the hell has happened to Florissant? I have been out here for over 23 years and even though I know that you can't get away from crime. It has never been this bad. I use to walk at night for exercise and now I am scared to leave my house at night with the fear of being robbed, shot, you name it. I am tired of all the Section 8 housing too. It is not fair to the homeowners that have been paying for their homes for years to have to deal with this. What in the hell is going on with the rental properties? People are moving in and out like a musical chair game, this has got to be a problem. The people that own those properties don't want to live in them and they are not doing thorough background checks before they move people in and the neighbors are not trying to deal with who they are putting in these houses. I see more infidelity, children in the streets all hours of the evening, stealing in the dollar general stores are up, trash on the streets is ridiculous, what happened to the Street Sweepers? Florissant got rid of the different Trash Trucks so why is there more trash on the streets? Let's get back to where we were and try to get back in shape. I'm looking to move out of here if this keeps up and some of you other dedicated Florissant homeowners need to think ahead to, because if this keeps up our homes won't be worth anything either.

I agree Virginia. I plan to move out to West County in the future. Florissant and surrounding areas have went down. You are also right about the property value of the homes going down. Section 8 housing is also hurting the city, since it seems to bring bad elements with it.

I totally agree with you Virginia. I grew up in this neighborhood and my husband and I moved back because it was such a great neighborhood. Now to our surprise, my neighbors have been burglarized next door and across the street. I think we were saved with our ADT signs and dogs. We've had drug dealers on the street and car thefts. My husband and I have been discussing our options because we don't want to take a huge hit on our property, but raising our children in the neighborhood is starting to look really slim. I must say if judges would give these criminals a stiffer penalty then maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Slap on the hands have caught up and leaving it up to the parents to raise these kids just isn't happening. Especially when the parents don't have boundaries themselves. We'll just sit back and see if Florissant can gain control, if not we're surely moving!

The police seem like they're dong what they can, but if the judges let them off with a little fine (that will probably be paid with money stolen from a hard working citizen) and probation, where's the deterrent? These people belong in prison where they can't and won't hurt the law abiding people choosing to call Florissant home.

Yes, I agree. We moved here 20 years ago, because there was no Section 8 housing and to my knowledge, didn't know it had passed here, but apparently it has because we have 2 properties across the street from us. Something needs to be done, to protect people that have been paying high taxes all these years, and our property is worth half as much money.

Maybe move section housing to Clayton or Ladue and then maybe the politians would do something about the problems

I agree with all of the above. I have grown up in Florissant and it was great growing up here. I agree about sending the section 8 to west county and farther out, wildwood would be great. I used to leave my front door open @ night until bedtime but now I lockup as soon as I get home for the night. Mr. Mayor and council please get our town back for us!!!!! Our homes aren't worth what they were just because these rental people jjust rent to anyone. Has anyone noticed alot of rental houses become vacant overnight!! Take back our city!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
