The Sound of Christmas

Setting the mood ahead of the holidays, local concerts and programs celebrate the season.

 

Decorations are up on every street and bitter cold has swept through the area, which can mean only one thing - the holidays are here. 

As the holiday season swings into full gear, schools and other organizations in Florissant will be putting on free concerts and other winter arts programs to get residents and visitors into the holiday mood.

On Monday, December 13, Cross Keys Middle School hosts its orchestra concert at 7 p.m. On the same night and at the same time, Wedgwood Elementary School  hosts a concert performed by the combined band for Duchesne, Combs and Wedgwood elementary schools.

Six events will be taking place on Tuesday, Dec. 14. Duchesne Elementary School puts on its Christmas program at 6 p.m. at McCluer South-Berkeley High School.

McCurdy Elementary School hosts its winter band and choir concert at 6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. Jana Elementary School will host the combined advanced orchestra for Jana, Brown, Cold Water, Lusher and Walker elementary schools as they put on their winter concert at 6:30 p.m.

Barrington Elementary School's orchestra will also host its winter concert at 7 p.m. Parker Road Elementary School will host its first and second grade choir concert at 7 p.m. McCluer North High School's choir will have their holiday concert at the Florissant Civic Center at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, Dec. 15, the Florissant Valley Branch of the St. Louis County Library will host a "Muppet Music Night," where kids can make a puppet, while listening to Muppets songs, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Halls Ferry Elementary School will host its holiday musical at 7 p.m. on the same night. Hazelwood Central High School's orchestra will be having their concert at 7 p.m. Hazelwood Northwest Middle School will also have their holiday orchestra concert in their school's gym at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, Dec. 16, Hazelwood Central Middle School will host its band and orchestra concert at 6:30 p.m.

Barrington Elementary School will also host its band concert on Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Hazelwood Central High School's choir concert will be at 7 p.m. that night. On Dec. 16 and Friday, Dec. 17, Hazelwood Northwest Middle School will also host the school drama group's winter play at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Dec. 19, Florissant General Baptist Church presents its "Christmas Dinner and a Show" at 5 p.m. in their gymnasium.

On Monday, Dec. 20, Lawson Elementary School's caroling choir will walk through the neighborhood next to the school and sing from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
