The Filing Period Opens

More than 15 pick up paperwork for municipal election seats, according to City Clerk.

Potential candidates for the April 5 municipal election kept City Clerk Karen Goodwin busy on Tuesday, the first day of for the city of Florissant.

Goodwin said that eight filed for the mayoral seat, which incumbent will retire from in April. Goodwin said that the "usual suspects" have picked up petition packets for the seat of mayor, including Ward 6 City Councilman Andrew Podleski and Ward 3 City Councilman Tom Schneider. Both have their intentions to run for the mayoral seat.

Two have picked up paperwork to file for the judge seat, and seven people have received paperwork to run for City Council seats.

According to Goodwin, two people have filed for each wards 4, 6 and eight, while one has filed for Ward 2. Ward 4 City Councilman and council president Keith English has picked up and submitted his paperwork for filing, Goodwin said.

She said she now must send it to the State of Missouri for verification of signatures. No one will be placed on the ballot until all signatures are verified from the petition period.

Petitioners have until Jan. 18 to return all necessary paperwork to the City Clerk's office.
