Scouting for Food: Boy Scouts to Pick Up Food Donations Saturday in Florissant
The 28th annual drive will come to a close on Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m. when scouts canvas area neighborhoods to retrieve bags dropped off last Saturday. Plus: what to do if you didn't get a bag or if your bag isn't picked up on Saturday.
Did you get a Scouting for Food bag placed on your mailbox or doorstep last week by a local boy scout? If so, you’ve still got time to fill it—but not much. The bags will be picked up on Saturday morning, according to the scouts’ North Star District Communications Chairman Fred Schaljo.
What You Need to Do to Donate
Schaljo said that anyone wishing to donate should place their filled Scouting for Food bags outside their homes in plain sight by 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Collection will begin at 10, he said. If your bag hasn’t been picked up by 1 p.m., or if you didn’t receive a bag and want to donate, you can call Mark Hays 314-550-4233.
How Your Donations Help Local Families in Need
“This is the 28th annual drive where 30,000 scouts and their leaders put out 1.4 million bags in Missouri last Saturday,” Schaljo said. “More than 500 food pantries rely on Scouting for Food and the generosity of the community to help stock their shelves before the holiday season and the cold winter months.”
Schaljo added that Scouting for Food donations provide up to a four-month supply for some pantries.
“Scouts are taught the value of helping others with this program,” he added. “Since the program started 27 years ago, 4.5 million cans have been collected.”
- If you received a Scouting for Food bag on your doorstep or mailbox last Saturday, you can donate by filling it with canned goods and placing it outside by 10 a.m. on Saturday for scouts to pick up and deliver them to a local food pantry.
