Part 2 of 2: Florissant Man Falls to Food Challenge

Quadruple Bypass proves to be too much for Todd Edelen.

Florissant resident Todd Edelen decided to spend his 31st birthday attempting to take down the “” challenge at .

The 45-minute competition seemed to be a breeze for Edelen to many, including owner Jerry Gettemeier.

“I think he’s going to do it,” he said. “I’m hoping he’s going to do it.”

In the first five minutes of competition, it seemed that Edelen had a good pace as he finished the first layer.

But it took him a little more than nine minutes to get through the second burger, and it appeared to go downhill from there.

At the 24-minute mark, all could see that Edelen had really slowed down in his pace. A few minutes later, when asked about his feelings, he said, “It’s a whole lot of meat,” and he didn’t feel good.

At the 30-minute mark, General Manager Chris Kenyon tried to motivate Edelen by playing Weird Al Yankovic’s, Eat It. It was a futile effort, however.

Edelen continued to slow down for the last 15 minutes, continuing to eat, until the clock ticked down to the last few seconds.

“I’m hurting,” he said following the end of the challenge. “I don’t know what there is to do different.”

Despite his first unsuccessful run, Edelen said he does plan to return and complete the challenge. He does offer advice to other aspiring challengers: “Be ready. It’s a lot of meat.”
