Mayors' Shamrock Ball Expands, Includes Ferguson Mayor
In the past, the annual event benefitting Valley Industries Sheltered Workshop included mayors from Hazelwood, Florissant and Blackjack.
The North County Mayors' Shamrock Ball is right around the corner and this year guests will get a little more bang for their buck.
This year all guests will meet the mayors of four North County communities who are the program hosts: Mayor Norman McCourt of Black Jack; Mayor Tom Schneider of Florissant, Mayor Matthew Robinson of Hazelwood and Mayor James W. Knowles of Ferguson.
The goal is to sell 500 tickets which are $100 each. Last year more than 400 tickets were sold and 52 event sponsors were recruited.
There was $27,000 raised to help provide dignified, meaningful employment for adults with development disabilities.
Tim Davidson, Hazelwood's communications coordinator said adding Ferguson to the ball was a no brainer.
"The addition of Ferguson’s mayor as one of the hosts opens the door for other North County businesses and residents to support," he said. "Over the years the event has grown and more cities are wanting to get involved.
"They asked to be a part and the (planning) committed obliged."
State, county and local elected officials will be on hand in support along with area business leaders.
King and Queen of the Ball
Each year, Valley Industries selects two workers of the year that are crowned king and queen at the ball. This year Mike Riner and Lynette Roberson, Mark Averill and Mary Beth Webb as the runner-ups should the duo be unable to participate.
There will be a $10 raffle for two prizes; a Treasure Chest of Happiness containing $500-$750 worth of assorted spirits and liquor and an authentic
NFL football autographed by St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford.
The night will include Irish-themed food, beverages and baked goods from local eateries including Catering to You, Choices Catering, Delmar Gardens, Helfer’s Pastries and Deli, Meyer’s Country Cottage & Irish Pub, Mattingly’s Sports Bar, O’Charley’s, Piccolino’s Italian Grocer, and Yacovelli’s is sponsoring the open bar.
Bob Kuban and his band will be the main entertainment.
Some of the students of The Clark Academy of Irish Dance, who made it through to Las Vegas for “America’s Got Talent,” will greet guests and perform.
