It's Only a Drill

Hazelwood School District participates in Great Central U.S. Shakeout.

Created by the Central United States Earthquake Consortium and several other organizations, the Shakeout focuses on raising awareness of how to stay protected through an earthquake with the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” method. 

Florissant Patch followed administrators from the start of the drill to the end on Thursday morning.

At 10:15 a.m., Principal Dr. Betty Scheller announced to students that the earthquake drill had started, and nine minutes later, it was done. The school also incorporated a short fire drill following the earthquake drill.

Dr. Scheller said that students and teachers evacuated the building in less than 60 seconds, which is a good time, she said.

She continued to say that the evaluation for the entire school looks good and the drill appeared to be a success.
