Heat Warning: Temperatures Rise in Florissant

A heat advisory surrounds the area until Thursday evening.

Florissant and St. Louis will be sizzling for the next few days as a heat advisory will be burying the area.

According to the National Weather Service, the heat index will hover between 100 and 105 Tuesday through Thursday. The advisory will be in effect until Thursday, 8 p.m.

This summer has seen a lot of triple-digit weather, and the City of Florissant opened the James J. Eagan Center and John F. Kennedy Center as cooling stations for residents.

In addition, the United Way has a list of cool places for residents to rest if needed.

Having been 24 heat related deaths in Missouri alone, I strongly encourage people to know the signs of heat exhaustion/heat stroke. I've heard all the horrible stories this Summer, as I do every Summer. Unfortunatley, I gained personal experience this year. I did not know some of the signs that I do now, and think it's important for everyone to be educated on what all this heat/humidity can cause to ANYONE. My husband is 32 years old, lawn technicain, perfect shape, extremely healthy, & always prepared (water, gatorade, etc) for the weather. On 7/5/12 with temps of 109 he went to work, hoping his job fixed the air in their worktruck he had been telling them about to find out they did not. He does a yard for 15 to 20min, then sits in worktruck (no air) for 30min getting ready for next stop, paperwork, phone calls. After his 15 yards and returning to jobsite he felt ill, his manager found him passed out in his office (closest room w/air) told him to go unload his truck (as he is vomittiing), get a gatorade, and drive home. My husband does not remember laying on the ground or most of the day after he was found. He drove himself home, walked in, fell to the floor, still vomiting. I thought he was just dehydrated, and started getting everything ready for the ER, until he started screaming in pain. We then rushed to hospital where I was told his kidney's had shut down and were the cause to his horrible leg cramps! One more hour it would have been his heart!!
