Halls Ferry Inn Jazz Cafe Owner Charged With Arson
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, owner Lozell Stiles has been arrested for second-degree arson.
Florissant residents lost the Halls Ferry Inn Jazz Cafe on early Sunday morning due to a case of arson.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Monday night that police arrested owner Lozell Stiles for second-degree arson involved with the fire.
His bail has been set at $10,000, and no motive has been announced, according to the report.
According to KMOX, a section of the restaurant’s roof collapsed around 1:30 a.m. after the restaurant closed for business. No one was injured and the music store, which sits next door, did not become damaged.
Originally the Halls Ferry Inn, which was a family owned restaurant for more than 40 years, the restaurant transformed into the jazz café under Stiles’ ownership last fall.

So sad. On my way to church Sunday I saw the charred building and thought to myself, ' I wonder if that place was set on fire for the insurance money.' Now the truth comes out.

If the charges are true, we certainly don't need that kind of new business owners in Florissant! Sad, Halls Ferry Inn had a long business practice prior to the new owner.

People need to mind they buisness and let God deal with his own ... If that was your brother, son, father, or Pastor etc. .... U'd be praying and trying to find another solution ... it's still human,, no man is with out sin while on earth...yes, this is extreme but, demons and spirits are alwayz present stop putting preachers on such high horses and pray for them and they families

I am not comdemning him either, because I (Pastor) as well can break the law or even fall into sin, if I yield my members Rom.6:13. But Leaders are held at a level where they are to be more of an example of the flock that God has put them over. (1Pt5:2, Acts 20:28) yes anyone in the body can commit a sin or sins, but it is not God will. There are a lot of believers who find scriptures to justify what they or others have done or doing that is not in the will of God. God is a forgiving God, but we should not sin or do unrighteous acts weather they be spiritual or natural just because he will forgive. Rom.6:1-6 grace doesn't give us a license to sin. A few scripture we use. We all have sinned (Past tense) and falling short of the glory of God. This verse was not meant for us to sin and justify it, or we will say that we are not perfect (But should'nt we be seeking perfection which is maturity) We say God knows my heart, well God wants to know more than our heart, he wants all of our heart; that's why we need our heart to be circumcised. The church has become so luke warm that we find a excuse for everything and want to justify everything to the point that the church has become weak and powerless. Isa.5:20 says, Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. This is how I see the church today calling wrong right and right wrong. Church come back to God

No one is comdemning him because he is a pastor, they are condemning him because he broke the law AND he is a pastor. If you choose certain professions you hold yourself to higher standards. A man of God should certainly be expected to be held to higher standards. Regardless, Pastor or not, he broke the law. Also Halls Ferry Inn has been a part of the lives of North County residents for a long time, then this guy comes in and destroys it for his own selfish gain.

Why do Pastors and Preachers have to live to a higher standard? Didn't Jesus say "he that have not sinned cast the first stone." Christians in general need to live a higher standard and yes ministers should be leading the way but they to are human and can fail. There's no big "I's or little U's" in God's kingdom, so if you're a Christian lets pray for one another and lift one another up. It is to my understanding that this Pastor turned himself in. if this is true, he must have felt bad for what he did. So in turn he did lead and show people even though he did wrong that he owened up to and did the Christian and moral thing by confessing his wrong act instead of being deceptive.

I agree with most of the comments. But Halls Ferry Inn was not the building it was the experience. I remember it's first location in the old Central city. When the original family retired and sold the business they effectively ended the experience. Personnely I did not appreciate their food but again it was the experience. What happened with the fire will be determined by the courts. I will pray for the people involved. It sounds like an act of despiration to me. I am convinced that the dear white people (I am white) who previously went to Halls Ferry Inn stopped going when it became a business owned by an African American and the word Jazz was added to the name. And the money was no longer there to support the business. Another example of how race affects all of us in North County. From my perspective as a person who has lived in North County since 1963 I have watched this happen repeatedly. I plan to attend the primere of the documentary on Spanish Lake to see what they found. If the citizens of North County do not learn to support one another especially the small local busnesses we will not be successful.
