Getting Ready to Go Back to School

A few weeks away from the start of school, "Florissant Patch" helps get parents and students in gear.

With the school bell ringing in a matter of weeks, Florissant Patch has some information to get parents and their students back on track for the school year.

Everything from start dates to events makes our cut for the reminders below:

  • The first day of school for each school district differs by a few days. Ferguson-Florissant students head to class on Aug. 11, while Hazelwood students begin on Aug. 15.
  • For Hazelwood middle and high school students, there are several registration dates approaching that parents should know. They are as follows for Florissant-specific schools:

  • With school getting underway, sports are soon to follow. It’s important for students to get sports physicals—and school physicals if needed—before the start dates. There’s a few local options to get the necessary health checks if your student's regular physician is not available. The Betty Jean Kerr People’s Health Center on West Florissant has a partnership with Ferguson-Florissant and Hazelwood school districts for health care and includes needs such as immunizations and screenings being conducted. Walgreen’s locations with Take Care Clinics have a special on sports and school physicals for $35.
  • Each district will also host back-to-school events for families to enjoy. The Ferguson-Florissant School District hosts a back-to-school event from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Administration Building with the opportunity for students and parents to meet board members and the new superintendent. There will also be food, games and fun for all. The Hazelwood School District PTA Council hosts its back-to-school festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at St. Louis Mills Mall.
