Former Florissant Rotary President Passes Away

Jim E. Fischer will have services Monday morning.

Jim Fischer, a founding member and past president of the Rotary Club of Florissant, passed away Aug. 1. He was 88.

Fischer not only was a charter member of the Florissant Rotary Club, but he served as the past district Governor of Rotary District 6060. He was also president of Fischer’s Pro-Line Sports in Florissant.

Florissant Rotarian and attorney JoAnn Donovan wrote in an email to Patch, “The Florissant Rotary has remained active for over 50 years through the good works of Rotarians like Jim. Jim served his community and the world through Rotary his whole life, had over 50 years of perfect attendance and was loved and admired by all of his fellow Rotarians.”

Visitation will be held Sunday, 3-8 p.m. at Hutchens Mortuary. Funeral procession will be from Hutchens to St. Rose Rose Philippine Duchesne Church for a 10 a.m. mass. The interment will be at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Black Jack.

When I was invited to become a member or the Florissant Rotary Club...Jim Fischer was one of the first to welcome me. He served for many years and was known through-out the country for his committment to Rotary. Jim always gave new members those little talks about what the true meaning of Rotary was about 'Service Above Self' During lunch we all enjoyed some of Jim's stories from the years of fellowship as a Rotarian. Jim Fischer will be missed although, God has one of the finest men with him now!
