Florissant Ward 4 Election is a One-Man Race

Jeff Caputa is the sole candidate to replace former Councilman Keith English.

In 2011, Jeff Caputa lost the Ward 4 council seat to then-incumbent Keith English, but this time around, he looks to have a good chance in winning.

Caputa is the only one who filed for the vacant council seat, Florissant City Clerk Karen Goodwin wrote in an email to Patch. English vacated the seat after winning the District 68 state representative seat in November.

"It was a surprise to me that I ran unopposed," Caputa said.

Caputa said he has stayed busy since his defeat in the past election by being elected committeeman for Florissant Township and also serving on the city's traffic and environmental quality commissions.

He's had an interest in running for the seat since English's initial campaign in 2007, but he said now is the perfect time to serve with his children being older.

Caputa said that he's not taking Florissant voters for granted though. He's continuing to go door-to-door to campaign and get to know residents.

He's also already got some ideas of issues he's like to address, such as recycling, taking care of the trail near Sunset Park and getting a schedule for street cleaning to residents.

"I'm going to try and keep up what Mr. English did, he said.

No other council seats or government seats are open in this election cycle. Caputa, if he decides to run again, will have to run for re-election next April.

The election will be held April 2.
