As you’re decorating your home for the holidays this year, the City of Florissant has a message for you: don’t throw those old or broken Christmas lights in the trash. Recycle them instead--for free.

In cooperation with Meridian Waste, the city will place a recycling container at the St. Ferdinand Park recycling center specifically for old holiday lights on Dec. 1. The container will remain available through March 1, 2013, the mayor’s office said.

Whatever you do, do not try to help your neighbors and friends around town to recycle. Do not attempt taking up a hobby or crafts to recondition these light strands. The City Administration will claim that you are running a business out of your home. Review Florissant City Council meeting November 12 and 26th. “Comments from citizens”. Volunteering your time will reward you with a court date.
