Florissant Ice Rink Scheduled to Open Today

After a bit of a weather delay, the Florissant assistant parks and recreation director plans to open Friday evening.

After a week and a half delay, the Florissant Ice Rink is anticipated to open Friday evening.

The unusual warm weather, which has lead to temperatures landing in the mid-80s, has caused the ice to be put on pause, according to Florissant’s assistant parks and recreation director Todd Schmidt. But the ice rink will open Friday with cooler weather forecasted.

The National Weather Service forecasts the weather to be in the 50s throughout the weekend.

Schmidt said that normally, the ice rink can be maintained at 70-degree temperatures, but the windy warm weather has made it problematic for the ice to stay cool.

He said once the ice is made that it’s much easier to maintain during rough weather than trying to build it.
