Florissant City Council Honors Outgoing 12-Year Member
Ward 7 Councilwoman Karen McKay will be celebrated for her dedication during Monday night's meeting.
Karen McKay will sit in her final meeting as Ward 7 Councilwoman Monday night.
Newly elected Jackie Bond Pagano will take her seat at the table following the swearing-in ceremony.
“Right now, I want to look at the next 15 years,” she said in a previous interview with Patch. “I think I’ve done a good job and learned a great deal.”
But McKay assures residents that she’ll be far out of the public eye.
“I’m not going anywhere,” she said. “I’m looking forward to helping with other campaigns.”
McKay served on the council for 12 years.
“I’ve been on the council for six years,” said Councilman Ben Hernandez. “Karen McKay has always been a positive force.”
“She definitely will be missed,” said Council President Keith English. “For the past two years as council president, I’ve had a great vice president in Karen.” English added that while her help was always appreciated, he valued her friendship even more. “Thank you for your friendship,” he said.
McKay has considered the possibility of becoming active in Florissant politics in the future. In an earlier interview, she said she has considered running for mayor in 2014.
The council will honor its outgoing member with a resolution honoring her years of service during the meeting.
The Florissant City Council meeting will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Florissant City Hall.
