Florissant City Council Backs Grant Form for Old Town Improvements
The application would request for federal government support from the East-West Gateway Council of Governments.

Florissant City Council approved a resolution Monday night that would support the grant application submission to the East-West Gateway Council of Governments for improvements to Old Town Street and storm water drainage.
The resolution endorses the council’s support for the application submission.
The grant would help in improving infrastructure to North Lafayette Street between Washington Street and North Highway 67. It would tackle making storm sewer and curb and gutter improvements for storm water drainage issues and help with ADA compliant sidewalks and crosswalks for pedestrians.
The grant is a part of the East-West Gateway Council’s fiscal year 2014-17 Transportation Improvement Program, for which the council is currently seeking applications. The deadline for the applications is March 8.
The grant would provide for 80 percent federal reimbursement of the project with 20 percent matching locally.
According to a memo from City Engineer Tim Barrett, the funding for this project has been approved and included in the fiscal year 2013 budget under the Capital Improvement Fund.

Happy to hear this grant application is on going. While Bob Garrett was the seated Councilman in Ward 6, he educated council and administration on all the problems within the Old Town grid that needed attention with it's infrastructure. The Historic District...unlike planned neighborhoods in the city had layers of material on all of their roads which elevated them higher than a residents property. Bob's hope was that over several years all of the streets and curbs could be addressed using the matching 80/20 Transportation Improvement Program.
