Five Guys Burgers and Fries Opens Its Doors
Led by a Florissant native, the town gets a new burger joint.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries snipped the ribbon for its opening day celebration Monday.
Mayor Tom Schneider, members of the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce and management of Five Guys at 205 N. Lindbergh stood outside one hour before the restaurant officially opened its doors.
"We’re excited to get one in North County," Joe Durand, director of operations for Monument Restaurants in St. Louis, said. "Florissant is a great community."
Durand said that the company has been searching for space in the area since 2008. The Florissant store is its ninth store in the area to open.
Five Guys has taken to local roots to direct its store, as Florissant native Josh Bennett has been hired as general manager. Bennett is a part of the family-owned Florissant mainstay, Hendel’s Market, which is part of what spurred him into the corporate-owned franchise.
"I wanted to branch out and learn the corporate world, opposed to the family-owned business," Bennett said.
He also said that it’s been a big transition for him to go from a fine dining world to a quick and casual restaurant, but one that he’s excited about.
The store is open daily, 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
Durand said that six to seven other Five Guys restaurants would be opening in the coming years, including one in St. Charles County next spring.
